10 Reasons Why I’m Jealous of a Deer Head
Any wife of a hunter knows she has competition. It’s the big buck that their hunter so eagerly awaits every hunting season. The buck they’ve waited years to see. The buck they’ve dreamt about many times hanging on their wall. The perfect view, the perfect shot, the perfect mount. It’s the perfect story from start to finish. Finishing right on the living room wall. Perfectly aligned with the living room curtains so that when people go by they will get a glimpse of him and think damn that’s a big buck. He is the pride and joy of any hunter and this is why I can’t help myself from being jealous.
- He’s stared at more times a day than I am.
- He’s caressed more times a day than I am.
- He’s showed off to friends more than I am.
- He’s talked about more than I am.
- He’s been awarded a certificate and is in a trophy book and I’m not.
- His presence was more important at a hunting show than mine was.
- He’s had more photographs taken of him than I have.
- He’s proudly mounted on the wall and his look is one of - Yes, he loves me best.
- He will forever be hanging on the living room wall even after I’m gone.
- He has a bigger rack than I do.
I am in need of some serious counseling.
Have a great day.

Oh, I can relate! Except I have more than just a deer head to compete with - I also have a goose, some ducks and a turkey fan!

Did I write this? Amusingly, as I pulled up your post earlier today, my Husband and his grandfather were standing in the kitchen talking about the deer head that should be here next month. Ah, yes. Three. “Choose your battles,” was my mantra but I think he’s starting to take advantage of it. I’m about to start decorating with flowers. And I hate flowers. HA!

yes I can understand this… I told Griz last season, that I have never seen him get that excited over me, refering to his overjoy with his latest prized rack!

You are right about that! Being a hunter and a wife of an avid hunter, I will say that I must compete for his attention everyday. Thought this was pretty funny.

This was a great post! My wife feels the exact same way about all of my heads. However a buck’s rack would have to be eligible for Boone and Crocket to beat hers!

Wow….there is a lot of talk about racks in this post. Way too funny. I love your no. 10 and I also laughed out loud at Jeff’s comment as well. Great stuff!

My wife could certainly relate, but I can’t. I will probably never understand women nor how they could be jealous of an animal, on or off the wall. My wife has this sign that says, “When I die, bury me in the forest so my husband will come looking for me”. Go figure.
Best Wishes
