Setting Up Shop

January 20, 2008 By: Jody Category: Deer Hunting 9 Comments →

I am now selling a few products for The Hunter’s Wife.  At the moment, I only have a few products that are geared toward the hunter’s wife.  I hope to add more soon that will be for the hunter as well.

For women hunters, I would like to know if pink is a problem and if you refer to yourself as a hunter or a huntress? Or both or neither?  I would really appreciate your input.

To visit my shop you can do so here.

Thanks and I hope you enjoy!

Another Proud Hunter’s Moment

January 18, 2008 By: Jody Category: Deer Hunting 10 Comments →

Next week will be a busy one for Mark. Mark has been working on the 24th Annual Outdoor Sports Show for the past few months and it starts next weekend, January 26 & 27, 2008.  You can read more about it here or directly at the City of Hammond Outdoor Sports Show.

Since this year’s show is approaching I am haunted by what happened to me last year…

Mark called to let me know Buckmasters would be at the show scoring deer heads and if I would bring in his monster.  Immediately I start to sweat thinking of my travel with Bambi.  It was one of those wifely duties I had no interest in fulfilling.

Oh, the thought of it.  Can I be trusted to take it off the wall without dropping it?  It’s heavy.  I will have to wrap it in a blanket so that I don’t break or scratch any part of it.  I will then have to put it in my car and angle it just right so that other drivers are not able to see me and my passenger, Bambi.  I will then have to walk in the show, carrying this monster, in front of a bunch of men.  I can’t.

I called Mark back whining that this will be difficult for me.  It is heavy, I don’t want to drop his precious love nor do I want to walk in the show with it in front of a bunch of men.  Now if I were single, that might be something I would consider.  I could hear them now “Man, look at that rack.”   Ok, stop dreaming…

Mark kept trying to convince me that I will be fine.  I kept rolling my eyes, sighing, ready to firmly say “No”.  But instead I firmly said “Meet me at the back door because I am not walking in with Bambi in front of a bunch of men.”

I get to the show, pull around to the back door and there they stood - Mark and a group of men anxiously awaiting its arrival.

Now that I look back on it all, even if I would have showed up in a bikini and heels, they still wouldn’t have noticed me.

For Those Who Missed It

From my post yesterday my husband left me this nice comment….

# 14 Mark - The Hunter Says:

Love your blog honey. Stories are well written. You do have the nicest derriere. You’re not bad looking you are great looking. Your my only friend whose underwear I care to see. You’re the best wife who knows what carry out I like. Even though cooking isn’t your thing, (thanks Mother-in-Law), you do have lots of things that make up for it.

Can I NOW plan my trip to Alaska bear hunting?

p.s. You are my best trophy.

Love, Hazel

This was my response to some of the comments left and to Mark…

# 17 Jody Says:

Thanks so much everyone for your nice comments.

I think Jeff says it perfectly. We seem to all be “dissed” by our family members.

To my sisters, I knew my butt was the smallest.
To my Mother, I am proud you left such a long comment. Sorry about Mark’s comment.

To Mark, (aka Hazel) I knew you secretly read my blog or is it because Larry called you and told you he likes my boots? I knew I was your best trophy!!! Thanks for all your nice comments….luv u!

p.s. Alaska??? Didn’t you forget something while you were Canada??? I shall share that story soon.

Stay tuned for my series of MIA in Canada…

Family, Friends & Comments

January 16, 2008 By: Jody Category: Blogging, Family & Friends 21 Comments →

I am not sure if this happens to a lot of you who blog but I would like to know why some of my family and friends, who read my blog, do not leave comments.   They will email their comment or call me to comment.

I can’t help but try to figure out why.  For example, my Mom reads my blog everyday.  I think she may have responded once or twice.  When I talk to her in the evening she will then say something about my post.  I then ask why she doesn’t leave her comment here and she will get all nervous and say oh I can’t do that.

My Mom acts as if people can see her.  Like they might see her underwear.  It also baffles me that my sisters rarely leave comments.  Unless they really would like to point out my hair color or my slightly bigger derriere.  Is it strange that my husband doesn’t leave comments?  Does he even know how?  Does he even know I have a blog about him?

As for my friends,  do they feel the same way?  Someone might see their underwear?

Do all of you have this problem with your family and friends?

I think those that blog find it to be an important part of their life.  They work hard to provide information, share their stories, not to mention the time it takes to keep a blog up and running.  It is very hard work and for most they do enjoy it, as I do.

So I call upon all of the family and friends of bloggers to leave a comment.  It is quick and easy to do.   Leave your first name, enter your email, which no one can see and leave a comment.  You could say things like;

“I love your blog”, “What a great story”, “You’re so funny”, “You are the best daughter”, “You’re my favorite sister”, “You are so pretty”, “You’re my best friend”, “Your butts not bigger”,  ”Can anyone see my underwear on here?”,  “You’re the best wife ever and I love your cooking.”

It’s that easy.

How Successful Was Your Deer Hunting Season?

January 14, 2008 By: Jody Category: Deer Hunting 4 Comments →

Here in Indiana, deer season is over.

Mark was able to harvest four does and one 6 point buck.  As most proud hunters would say, it would have been 7 point but it had a broken tine.  That matters in the world of hunting.

As for this years mount, here it is for those who haven’t seen it already.  If you would like to read about it you can do so here.

What are we going to do with all that meat?

  • We gave some to a friend whose Dad loves venison.
  • We gave to some friends for wild game dinners.
  • We donated some to a family who doesn’t hunt but enjoys venison.
  • We have the rest in our freezer downstairs to enjoy for the next 10 months.

We always enjoy sharing our venison to those who enjoy it.  And believe me, I really, truly do not mind.  :)

How successful were you and do you share your venison?

Flooding Update - January 12

January 13, 2008 By: Jody Category: Family & Friends 4 Comments →

The water has gone down a bit but as you can see it hasn’t gone down as far as we would like it to.

We are so thankful it did not flood the inside of the house.  Just the crawl space.

Thanks Everyone - Flooding Update

January 10, 2008 By: Jody Category: Family & Friends 8 Comments →

As of this morning, the water had receded about 18″.   Thank goodness!   Mark is planning to go down on Saturday to coordinate the repairs to the road and to see what needs to be done.  I know my brother got a bit of water and a few of the neighbors.  I will post an update next week.

Thanks so much for your thoughts.  Mark and I both appreciate it.

And our thoughts go out to all the others…

Central Indiana Flooding - Our House

January 10, 2008 By: Jody Category: Family & Friends 6 Comments →

Over the past few days we’ve had a significant amount of rainfall.  This past weekend we had extremely unusual warm tempatures that had melted quite a bit of snow.   Then the rain came and quickly dropped over 5 inches leaving several counties in central Indiana flooded.  One of those being White County, which is where our summer/hunting house is located on the Tippecanoe River.

We have a few neighbors giving us updates as the hours go by.  As of Tuesday night, the water was to the bottom of our porch and rising.  My Mother-in-Law has a house right next to us and my brother a few doors down and my Brother-in-Law has a piece of property there.

Here is our house my husband built.

After all of the reports, my husband decided to take a drive down to see how bad it was.  When he got there, he couldn’t drive down our road because of this big hole.

He walked to a friends property that is up the hill and walked down the back of their house to get to our property, which is on lower ground.  This is what he saw from there.  The house and garage in the center is my Mother-in-Law’s house.  The house to the right is ours.

Mark found a 2 x 4 floating in the river and was able to pull one of the boats over in order to float to the house.

This should be the road behind our house.

Here is a photo of the back of the house.

Our house is on the far side with the covered porch.

Here is a view from our front porch.

As of Wednesday afternoon the water had not reached the inside of our house. Hopefully the water will soon start receding.

There are so many others who were worse hit then us.   Some houses are almost completely under water or close to it.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the families who have been affected by this terrible flooding.
