Emergency Room Fears

February 20, 2008 By: Jody Category: Health 5 Comments →

I have many fears such as snakes, bugs, germs and emergency rooms.  Emergency rooms are filled with germs, people bleeding, or someone throwing up.  It makes me nervous, lightheaded and irritable when I have to go.

My first fear;

I was getting out of a car and the door knocked me forward and I cut my eyelid on the door frame.  I was probably about 19 at the time.  I had never had a broken bone or stitches and felt faint at the thought of looking at the cut.  I ended up at the emergency room and was nervous with each question they asked and I quickly answered.  Then they ask “When was your last monthly?”  I looked at the nurse and said “I’m not bleeding there I am bleeding here.”  And pointed to my eye.  I nervously asked question after question.  I couldn’t stop talking.  Asking them what they are doing, will it leave a scar, how many stitches do I need, how long will it take, who will stitch it up, don’t let me see a needle or blood.  The doctor asked me to please stop talking and he will hurry and get it done.  The doctor looked about 30 and after he was done he said there you go you only needed 4 stitches and you can look at it over in the mirror.  I looked in the mirror and see a Charlie Brown band-aid on my eye.  I said to the doctor “Charlie Brown?” and he said “Yes, that is what I put on all the babies.”

My second episode;

Mark and I were dating and we were at the river for the weekend.  We were going to make a nice dinner and he wanted to shower beforehand.  (This is what I get for trying to cook!)  I thought I would cut up the onion while he was showering.  My first slice and it went right in my finger.  I quickly squeezed my hand together and saw a little blood and was about to faint.  I managed to make it to the bathroom and I say calming crying “Ummm Mark I cut my finger”.  He quickly gets out and says let me see and I couldn’t open my hand.  I thought for sure if I open my hand my finger would fall to the floor.  He said I can’t see if you need stitches if you don’t open your hand.  So here I sit on the toilet trying to open my hand and thinking we are in the boonies and Doctor Billy Bob is not giving me stitches.  I didn’t need stitches but I think I kept my hand closed for a month.

Monday’s episode:

Mark took me to the emergency because of a really bad cold.  As I sit in a daze answering all their questions like your name, when is your date of birth, your address, your insurance, how tall are you, and then I hear “How much do you weigh?” I said “I’m sorry?” She asked again and as I looked at Mark and then back at her and said “I didn’t hear you.”  She asked again louder and I said “You shouldn’t ask that question in front of someone’s husband.”

When I got home I dug out my yoga and pilates Dvd’s for when I have the energy and will not go to another emergency room unless they drag me.

Germs, Germs & Germs

February 19, 2008 By: Jody Category: Health 8 Comments →

I am a germ freak and am always washing my hands.  I don’t touch the escalator rails, nor the grocery cart until I wipe it down.   Obviously I touched something from someone with germs.   I have no idea where I got it or who I got it from but I am sick.

I haven’t been this sick in I don’t know how long.  Thursday night I started sneezing and wheezing and that was it.  Got up Friday with a fever and my head pounding with pressure and I felt totally out of it.   It resulted in calling my doctor to call in a prescription so I don’t end up with pneumonia.  Which is how I feel.  My sinus pressure is slowing moving its way down to my chest.  My nose is raw and red from blowing it every 3 minutes, I look and feel like hell and I slept the weekend away.

I ended up at the hospital yesterday thinking it was pneumonia.  They said I had a really bad flu virus and were about to send me home until they took my blood pressure one more time.  It was still high so they decided to put me on an IV and do more testing.  Everything came back good so they thought maybe I was a bit dehydrated.   Sent me home with prescriptions and told to get plenty of rest and fluids.  Which I thought I had been doing all weekend.

This flu virus going around seems to be a bad one.  Wash your hands, spray Lysol and wash your hands.  I just hope Mark doesn’t get it after picking up all my kleenex and nursing me all weekend.

February 15, 2008 By: Jody Category: Blogging 3 Comments →

If you’re not already advertising your blog with Entrecard you may want to look into it.  It is a free social advertising network that allows you to advertise your blog on other’s blogs in their network by way of credits.

 How do you earn credits?

  • From other bloggers who would like to advertise on your blog.  You do have the option to approve or decline their request.
  • From other bloggers who drop their card on your blog.
  • By dropping your card on other’s blogs.

How do you advertise?

  • You then use your credits earned to advertise on other’s blogs of your choice.

I think this is a great marketing tool that allows you the opportunity to advertise your blog with anyone in their network.  There is also talk about bloggers not happy with Entrecard because of their bounce rates rising.   For the time being, I am going to see how it goes.

If you would like more detailed information for Entrecard you can find it here

I am not earning anything for suggesting their site.  I just thought some of you may want to look into joining.  I have found a few interesting blogs from them.

Let me know if any of you join so I can drop a card.

The Hunter’s Wife Bio

February 13, 2008 By: Jody Category: Family & Friends 10 Comments →

For some time I’ve been promising Othmar at Outdoors With Othmar Vohringer and Jeff at LowCountry Hunting that I would post about my enjoyment outside of work.  As both of them have noticed I have been putting this off for over 2 months.  And it isn’t because I just don’t want to it is because I just can’t.  I just can’t bring myself to write about me and only me.  I have spent many hours on this post and either erase it or leave it in my handy drafts file.

It’s easy to say what I enjoy such as my family, friends, fishing, music, books, etc.  But it just doesn’t seem to be the right post that I want to share with everyone.  I want this post to have feeling and I’m just not feeling it.

So I leave you with this, I will one day complete it.  In the meantime, if there is something you would like to know about me feel free to ask.

Deer Hunting Blogs

February 12, 2008 By: Jody Category: Blogging, Deer Hunting 8 Comments →

It’s nice to see quite a few new deer hunting blogs.  It seems everyday more and more outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen are jumping into blogging.  Not only does this help provide a fresh perspective of other’s views but it helps to increase the outdoor communities.

When I started my blog in September, it was actually to learn about blogging for work purposes.  While my husband was getting some hunting things together I decided to start a blog about the life with a hunter to see how it all works.  After the first month, I was hooked on blogging and found a lot of great and supportive people within the hunting communities.

One of the things I’ve learned is if you want a successful blog you really have to take the time and visit other’s blogs and leave a comment because most likely they will return the favor.  Find outdoor forums and sign up and join in on the conversations.  Some may find their way to your blog and become a reader.

There has been a lot of discussion on many hunting blogs about the image of hunters.  I would suggest spending the time and looking at other social networking sites.  I think this is a great way to spread the word, not only about your blog, but about hunting in general.  Prior to starting my blog, I wasn’t very supportive of hunting.  Yes, I supported my husband who enjoyed hunting but now I’ve found myself supporting hunting in general.

What I hope to do over the next couple of weeks is list those networking sites that I’ve joined and share them here.  If you are new to blogging and have setup your deer hunting blog, visit the Outdoor Bloggers Summit.  They are a great supportive group.

Fish Fry

February 10, 2008 By: Jody Category: Fishing 13 Comments →

This past weekend Mark and I decided to invite my Mom and Dad over for a fish fry.  Our menu was bluegill from one of our trips to Kentucky, homemade hushpuppies and homemade french fries.  When we go fishing Mark usually filets all of our fish when cleaning them.

Fried fish and homemade hushpuppies is actually one my very favorite meals that I don’t get to enjoy all that often.  For those who know a little about me, I do not cook and you can read about it here. And here are a few reasons why…

Here is Mark breading the fish.

And frying the fish.

And my Mom and Dad cooking the hushpuppies and frying the fries.

And here I am waiting for my dinner…

How delicious do these homemade hushpuppies look?  They are made with cornmeal, green onions, jalapeno peppers and boiling water.

And “POOF” - here it is on the table.  It was oh so good!

And this was my Dad’s plate.  Let me correct, his second plate.

Again, it was oh so good and well worth all the grease.

Survivor - Jon - Jonny Fairplay Voted Out

February 08, 2008 By: Jody Category: Giveaways 2 Comments →

I’m so sorry Linda.  Especially seeing you’re a huge Survivor fan.

I normally do not enjoy the first few episodes.  It takes me a few weeks to get use to everyone and remembering their names.  But because there are 10 players from the previous shows it seemed a bit easier.

My favorite player so far is James.  I think he is one of the hardest workers and those are the ones I tend to favor.  I also like that Yau Man was able to start a fire.  I am amazed that the ”fans” group wasn’t able to start a fire as well.  If I knew I was going to be on Survivor, which I would never because of the bikini factor, bugs and snakes, and not being able to wash my face, hair, body, brush my teeth or shave, I would be in my backyard practicing how to start a fire.  These are “fans” of Survivor, come on.

We shall see what happens next week.
