The Hunter’s Wife Update

March 19, 2008 By: Jody Category: Deer Hunting, Uncategorized 6 Comments →

I was up late while they were finishing our flooring in our kitchen so I didn’t get to complete what I’d plan to post this morning.  So I thought I would do a quick update about a few things.

First, I would like to send get well wishes to Kristine.  You can read about what is happening with her on her site. I hope all goes well!

Our kitchen is pretty much complete. We just need to clean everything up and get a few things organized.   Thanks Mark and Darrin.  I love it.

I did mention to Mark I would like to go shed hunting and he just laughed.  But we have been busy re-modeling our kitchen and this coming weekend is Easter.  Maybe, just maybe, he will take me sometime soon.

I’m still struggling with this time change.

I started this blog last fall during the upcoming deer hunting season. It was easy for me to share a few hunting stories along with a bit of hunting information. Seeing that hunting season is over and I am not a deer hunter, this site has become more of a personal diary for me.  I hope all of you don’t mind visiting my site for a smile or a laugh for the day, even if it isn’t about hunting or the outdoors.

Have a great day all!

Congratulation’s Amber! Now me and Auntie Jer will have to come up with a new cheer for this year’s team!  I promise we will practice.  But please remember, we are not 18 anymore and our junk in our trunk prevents us from doing certain moves.

Spring is in the Air

March 17, 2008 By: Jody Category: Family & Friends 6 Comments →

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone!

Mark and I are in the middle of remodeling our kitchen.  We’ve painted, purchased a new dishwasher and are replacing the flooring.  Hopefully we will have everything done by this weekend for Easter.

I took a break yesterday and my Mom and I went to visit my brother, nephew and niece.  My brother and I ran to get lunch and my brother saw the first sign of spring, a robin.  Then on our way home my Mom saw another.

I also noticed I have a few bulbs sprouting that I planted last fall on the side of our garage.  Our spring weather is always crazy around here with 50’s one day and 30’s the next.  Hopefully my flowers won’t suffer.

I am sure all of you are ready for spring.  This winter seemed like a long one.

My Goofy Googler

March 15, 2008 By: Jody Category: Deer Hunting 2 Comments →

It’s time for my Goofy Googler.  This is where I post about the person who googled a phrase and was able to find my site.

To the Peeker of “Kristine Rex”:

Kristine’s last name is not Rex but Rex is Rex’s first name not the last name. Did I confuse you?

I did do a search for Kristine Rex and it looks like there is actually a person who’s name is Kristine Rex but I don’t know that person.

The Kristine you will find here writes for Gun Safety Innovations and the Outdoor Blogger’s Summit. As for Rex, you can find Rex at the Deer Camp Blog. But don’t confuse Rex at the Deer Camp Blog with Erin at the Jr. Deer Camp Blog.

Erin just started her blog so head over and welcome her to the outdoor community.

Have a great day!

OBS Challenge - City of Hammond, IN

March 14, 2008 By: Jody Category: Family & Friends 6 Comments →

The Outdoor Blogger’s Summit has issued a write about the good challenge this week.  The challenge is to write about the good that hunters, anglers and conservationist do. The post could be about an organization, a person or an experience.  I’ve chosen the City of Hammond, Indiana and the good they do for their local youths.

One event each year hosted by the City of Hammond is their summer festival.  They have many activities for kids including a kids fishing derby.  This is sponsored by the City of Hammond and co-sponsored by Mik Lurch Fishing Tackle Outlet and the Hammond Optimist Youth Group.

Last year over 270 kids participated in the fishing derby and each child was given a rod and reel combination.  Trophies are given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in several different fishing categories along with many great prizes.  My husband, Mark, is one of the organizers for the derby and I know the kids always have a great time.  I hope to attend this year and get lots of pictures so I can show how nice it always turns out.

I would also like to mention that at the City of Hammonds last Sport’s Show there was a minnow pond setup for racing and all proceeds were donated to the local Walleye Program. This was for the restocking of Walleye in one of our local lakes, Wolf Lake.

There are so many great programs out there but it is nice to see a city that does as much as they do for the youths in their community.

**Please note:  I will be posting over the weekend so check back tomorrow morning for my Goofy Googler.**

Survivor - Chet Voted Out

I’m so sorry Cecy.  Chet was voted out.

Also, I know that Jonathan left the game.  But we will leave him in the game until we know for sure he is out.  I hope he comes back for Marky’s sake.

OBS Challenge - Write About the Good

March 13, 2008 By: Jody Category: Deer Hunting 8 Comments →

The Outdoor Blogger’s Summit is challenging or encouraging bloggers to find a local program that is supported by people who hunt or fish and to write about that program on their blog.  I do have an organization that I would like to point out and will be posting that on my blog tomorrow.

Today, however, I wanted to point out one person in particular that I feel is very deserving of this type of recognition.  It is Kristine who writes for the Outdoor Blogger’s Summit and Gun Safety Innovations.

Kristine is such a great inspiration for the entire outdoor community. She is an amazing writer, she is one of the first to support a cause in need of attention, she makes a point to visit a lot of blogs on a daily basis, and if ever you have a question she is more then happy to help.

With all the support that Kristine gives to the outdoor communities I wanted to say thanks for all the good she does throughout these communities and it is greatly appreciated by many.

Road Trip to Hana - Hell

March 12, 2008 By: Jody Category: Family & Friends 5 Comments →

One of the attractions in Maui Hawaii is the road trip to Hana.  Hana is the tropical side of the island with spectacular waterfalls, tropical rain forests, and isolated beaches.  There are over 50 one lane bridges and about 600 turns.  I think it took us about 4 hours to get to the end.  We would stop and get out viewing the waterfalls and beaches.  They were amazing.

We sat out on the black rocks but weren’t able to get in the water because of the currents. It was a bit windy that day.

At the end of the tour, you are suppose to turn your car around and head back the way you came.  My husband and his brother decided to ask a local what if we were to continue on the road?  The local explained that it’s pretty isolated and there isn’t much to see, some parts of the road turn to gravel and it might not be safe.  That is all my husband and his brother needed to hear.  Other side of Hana here we come and I wasn’t very happy about it.

About 20 miles out, we were still able to get out of the car and look at the water and scenery.  Then we begin to see nothing.  I was nervous and insisted on them turning the car around.

And we saw many of these….

Then the road was turning to gravel and it looked like the desert.  After seeing many deserted cars, I was waiting for someone to jump out and kidnap us because in my mind that is why all of these cars were isolated off the road.

The turns in the road were sharp, the cliffs were high and my fear increased.  I was not enjoying this scenic route like the others were.  It took us a couple of hours to finally see life again and I couldn’t have been happier.

The next day we did a little shopping.  As Mark, his brother and sister-in-law were in a corner laughing and hiding, I couldn’t figure out why. They then held up a shirt they wanted to buy for me that read “I survived the road trip to Hana.”

I didn’t find it very amusing.

Doesn’t Hawaii Sound Nice About Now

March 11, 2008 By: Jody Category: Family & Friends 11 Comments →

After trying to adjust to this time change and the fact that everyone is sick of the snow and cold weather, I thought I would post some heat.

In October of 2001 Mark and I, his brother and his wife went to Hawaii for a week’s vacation.  When we arrived, we booked several excursions for the week.  One of those was an eight hour boat trip to snorkel and swim with the turtles on turtle island.  Then that evening we were scheduled to have a dinner cruise.

We headed out in the early morning for our eight hour trip.  About 15 minutes into the trip my sister-in-law got seasick.  When we reached the first island, they said it was best for my sister-in-law to get in the water and it would make her feel better.  Well our two husbands were off with the fishes while we stayed close to the boat.  She was really sick and I was in fear a fish would touch me.

Thank goodness I didn’t go under water because if I saw this…..

…swimming anywhere near me I would’ve cried.

After Mark and his brother had their fun with the fishes, we headed to turtle island.  Again, we all got off the boat and there go the brothers swimming with the turtles.

Thank goodness I didn’t go under water because if I saw this…

…I would have said I’m ready to go home now.

After being in the heat for seven hours, I was feeling a little ill myself.  We ended up having to cancel our dinner cruise that night because we girls decided we had enough of boats.

Can you tell my husband loves the water…

Daylight Savings Time Change

March 10, 2008 By: Jody Category: Uncategorized 8 Comments →

Does anyone else have a hard time adjusting to this time change?  This one always seems harder for me.  Yesterday I was in slow motion and ended up taking a 2 hour nap and then couldn’t sleep last night.  I’ve been up for a hour today and am ready to go back to sleep.  Even after a pot of coffee.

I hope to be back to normal tomorrow.
