Friday’s Goofy Squirrel Googlers

March 07, 2008 By: Jody Category: Deer Hunting 18 Comments →

Friday’s Goofy Googler = The peeker (lurker) and their keyword searches that led them to The Hunter’s Wife site.

I understand what some peekers do behind closed doors is their own personal business.  I am all for privacy.  However, I am deeply concerned about some of the keyword searches that were used to find my site.

This is to the Peeker searching for “Married Squirrels”

Am I missing something in the wild outdoors?  I know there are many things about hunting I just don’t understand but do squirrels marry?  Can someone explain this to me please?  Maybe it is a hunting term meaning 2 squirrels nibbling on a nut together?

My inquiring mind needed to know so I did the search for married squirrels.  I still couldn’t find anything from there other then my site is on page 1 for the The Frying of Foxy.

Then I thought maybe just maybe someone has a picture of married squirrels. And here it is.  The shotgun wedding of stuffed squirrels.

Attention Hunters:  If you are looking to have your squirrels stuffed, here is an example of what you can do with them.  Maybe this peeker was onto something.  I think I might just make my hunter re-create my wedding with a couple of squirrels.

Deer Hunting Scouting

March 06, 2008 By: Jody Category: Deer Hunting 16 Comments →

Warning:  Please don’t fall out of your chairs in shock but I am considering asking Mark if he would take me to his hunting spots to go scouting.  I have no idea what scouting is all about or what exactly they do, but I want to find some shed antlers.   I have not discussed this with my husband as of yet, but I guess he will find out at about the same time all of you will.

As some of you know, I’m a scaredy cat and I have no idea what will happen if I see a snake, coyote, tick, strange bug or, for the love of deer, I end up with poison ivy or worse yet I get lost.  I will need one of those child safety protective ropes that you velcro to each other.

It probably won’t be this weekend but possibly the following weekend.  If I don’t have a nervous breakdown before then just thinking about what animal will jump on me.

Why I Don’t Drive The Fishing Boat or Pontoon

March 05, 2008 By: Jody Category: Fishing 13 Comments →

I’m sure you are all wondering why I never get to drive the fishing boat or ponotoon so I thought I would share my reasons…

  • Mark likes to be the manly man at the wheel.
  • Mark can’t sit and just enjoy the view.
  • Mark is afraid I will hit a rock and he will fly out of the boat. (Me too.)
  • I might hit a sandbar and again he flys out of the boat.
  • Mark is afraid the other guys on the lake will see me driving and not him.
  • My dog would need to sit on my lap.
  • Mark loves driving the boat.
  • If I had to park the boat, me and the boat would end up on the pier.

I have always been perfectly content with Mark driving,  Mark fixing my fishing reel, Mark putting my line on my rod, Mark putting my lure on my rod, Mark getting my rod unstuck from the brush, and Mark taking the fish off the hook.  When going out fishing with Mark I feel very uncoordinated.  Even though I am the girly girl, I am very competitive when it comes to sports.

So this year I plan to learn all of that myself for our spring fishing trip.  Although, the thought of taking the fish off the hook is giving me hives right now.

I Never Get To Drive The Boat

March 04, 2008 By: Jody Category: Fishing 9 Comments →

Whenever Mark and I are on our fishing boat or pontoon I am like a 15 year old asking if I can drive.  After all the years we’ve been married, I have yet to get my turn.  Every spring and summer that goes by so does my hopes to be the driver.

I’ve begged, pleaded, bartered, nothing had worked until a few summers ago.  We were at the river and took a pontoon ride with my sister-in-law and niece.  My sister-in-law was very aware of my begging after many rides on the pontoon.  After about an hour I asked Mark if I could drive.  He gave the answer he always gives, “No”.  I sat there pouting.

About an hour later, Mark asked me to sit in his seat.  The driver’s seat.  I jump up and with a bounce in my step and sang “I get to drive the boattttt”.   I start dancing back and forth in the driver’s seat and my sister-in-law quickly takes my picture.

Then Mark says ”I’m just changing the gas tank”.

My bouncing and singing and dancing and smile on my face quickly turned to a frown.  Like the time I was 5, cried everyday because I hated school and had to have my picture taken with this very attractive pouting look.

After my April fishing trip to Kentucky, I promise to post pictures of me driving our boat.

Or my new signature will be ….

Interesting Outdoor Blogs

March 03, 2008 By: Jody Category: Deer Hunting 5 Comments →

I enjoy when other bloggers point out blogs of interest so I thought I would share a few that I enjoyed reading this past week. Holly at Norcal Cazadora - Becoming a Huntress was featured in the Sacramento Bee with her article she wrote titled “To be a predator and eat what you kill”.  It is a great article and congratulations to Holly. Whether your a hunter or not, it is worth reading.

Marian at Marian’s Hunting Stories wrote about artist Robert Dafford and his murals he did on the flood wall at Vicksburg’s City Front. After reading the article I realized Robert Dafford is the same artist that did work on the flood walls in Paducah, Kentucky. Robert Dafford has done a lot of murals along the Ohio River. If you haven’t seen his work before, Marian has a few pitures on her blog.

Kris at Jake’s Outdoors has many great articles. I just went to find the article I wanted to mention here and I came across something different he has posted this morning about Hunt of a Lifetime. Kris always has some interesting posting that are worth reading.

Arthur at Simply Outdoors is another of my daily reads. Arthur has a great blog and I see he has posted about his weekend at an outdoor show. Looks like they weren’t able to get a fish like us girls. Arthur here is my tip, when the guys running the trout pond see a female, they quickly fix our lure to a different color.
