April 15, 2008 By: Jody Category: Blogging 8 Comments →

The next few days are going to be extremely busy.  I am packing for vacation, I have a ton of running around to do, and I am in the middle of a blog post, “Is It Really Your Business”,  that I am trying to complete for tomorrow’s posting.  So today I wanted to ask all of you what is your favorite daily program?

Is it…

  • igoogle
  • Outlook
  • Word/Excel
  • Twitter
  • Stumbleupon
  • Entrecard

You get the hint.  I am curious to see what programs are your favorite.

Have a great day all!

Welcome Back

April 03, 2008 By: Jody Category: Blogging 6 Comments →

My site is finally back up and running.  I was having a few problems with IP addresses and my hosting service and was unable to access my site and email for the past few days.   I also had unexpected company of a teenage niece who is staying with Mark and I for the next 10 days while her Mom is out of town.  My limited free time has turned to later nights, homework, running around and lecturing sessions.  I forgot how difficult it is being a teenage girl.  What to wear, is my hair alright, boys, friends crying over a boys, saying no, lots of homework, and can we go shopping.

I will be back to my normal post tomorrow with my Goofy Googler.

Fun with Guest Blogging

February 29, 2008 By: Jody Category: Blogging 9 Comments →

I want to thank Rex at the Deer Camp Blog for inviting me to be a guest blogger the past few days.  I made sure to do my research and read up on some of his old postings.  If you haven’t read some of is older postings take the time to do so, Rex really is a funny guy.   From his town names, to the fun he has with friends and family, to his imagination, to his passion for the outdoors and the people that he welcomes.

I really had a lot of fun and if he ever needs a guest blogger again, I would be more then happy to do so.

Thanks everyone for your comments and support.

Your Favorite Blogging Tips or Tools

February 28, 2008 By: Jody Category: Blogging 6 Comments →

Today I wanted to find out what are some of your favorite blogging tips or tools?  What social network services do you like, do you use feeds or just bookmarks, what are some of your favorite plugins if you are using Wordpress?

I guess I am feeling a bit unorganized with some of my blogging tools.  Sometimes I subscribe to feeds and most of the time I bookmark blogs that I like.  I feel I’m not using the best Wordpress plugins I should be.  There are so many social networking sites to choose from and I’m not sure which of those are best for me.

So I ask all of you, what are some of your favorite tips or tools?

Check out my guest blog post at the Deer Camp Blog.

Being Cautious Online

February 27, 2008 By: Jody Category: Blogging 10 Comments →

Growing up I was always very cautious about many things.  I never wanted to ride rides at the carnivals because something might break and I would fall 500 feet from the air.  I didn’t want to ride the merry-go-round because it goes around in a circle and I might throw up.  I was never a very good swimmer and I never liked going out in the water in fear that a fish or shark will bite me or I would drown because I just can’t swim very well.

Being online I am not as cautious as I probably should be like some of the other bloggers are.  Blessed.  I have my picture posted on here, I’ve posted other information about my personal life.  I guess if someone really wanted to find me they probably could.    But for some reason something from my childhood makes me not fear someone “getting me”.

When you’re a teenager and realize there are choices you need to make yourself but you hear those voices of your parents in your head.  “Is that really the right choice, do onto others as you would want them to do onto you, you are too cute to frown, I love you but I will not tolerate that behavior.”  My Moms favorite was “If you can’t say something nice don’t say it at all.”

Then I realize why I have no fear of someone getting me.  It is from my Father and one of his favorite sayings ”If someone were to take you, they would bring you right back.”

But just in case, this is my bodyguard “The Hunter” so don’t even try it.

Just a reminder, I am guest blogging over at the Deer Camp Blog

Blogging for a Hunter at the Deer Camp Blog

February 26, 2008 By: Jody Category: Blogging, Deer Hunting 5 Comments →

Last week I received an email from Rex at the Deer Camp Blog asking if I would guest post for him while he is away on a golf trip. I agreed and will be posting on his blog starting tomorrow, Wednesday, February 27, 2008.

I really hope I don’t disappoint anyone.  It is a hunter’s blog and everyone knows I’m not a hunter but Rex has a fun blog and this will give me a chance to have some fun over there.

Head over and leave an encouraging comment please.

Website Grader SEO Tool

February 22, 2008 By: Jody Category: Blogging 6 Comments →

If you’re looking to find some specific SEO information and tips on what improvements you can make to your site, here is a great tool I found thru Social Media Mom to be of help.

It’s the Website Grader SEO Tool.  It is a free automated evaluation that will provide a report that grades your website on it’s natural search results.   It also provides detailed information on what you can do to help improve your search rankings.

It’s a great tool and I am in the process of making changes myself.

Advertising Your Blog With Entrecard

February 15, 2008 By: Jody Category: Blogging 3 Comments →

If you’re not already advertising your blog with Entrecard you may want to look into it.  It is a free social advertising network that allows you to advertise your blog on other’s blogs in their network by way of credits.

 How do you earn credits?

  • From other bloggers who would like to advertise on your blog.  You do have the option to approve or decline their request.
  • From other bloggers who drop their card on your blog.
  • By dropping your card on other’s blogs.

How do you advertise?

  • You then use your credits earned to advertise on other’s blogs of your choice.

I think this is a great marketing tool that allows you the opportunity to advertise your blog with anyone in their network.  There is also talk about bloggers not happy with Entrecard because of their bounce rates rising.   For the time being, I am going to see how it goes.

If you would like more detailed information for Entrecard you can find it here

I am not earning anything for suggesting their site.  I just thought some of you may want to look into joining.  I have found a few interesting blogs from them.

Let me know if any of you join so I can drop a card.

Deer Hunting Blogs

February 12, 2008 By: Jody Category: Blogging, Deer Hunting 8 Comments →

It’s nice to see quite a few new deer hunting blogs.  It seems everyday more and more outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen are jumping into blogging.  Not only does this help provide a fresh perspective of other’s views but it helps to increase the outdoor communities.

When I started my blog in September, it was actually to learn about blogging for work purposes.  While my husband was getting some hunting things together I decided to start a blog about the life with a hunter to see how it all works.  After the first month, I was hooked on blogging and found a lot of great and supportive people within the hunting communities.

One of the things I’ve learned is if you want a successful blog you really have to take the time and visit other’s blogs and leave a comment because most likely they will return the favor.  Find outdoor forums and sign up and join in on the conversations.  Some may find their way to your blog and become a reader.

There has been a lot of discussion on many hunting blogs about the image of hunters.  I would suggest spending the time and looking at other social networking sites.  I think this is a great way to spread the word, not only about your blog, but about hunting in general.  Prior to starting my blog, I wasn’t very supportive of hunting.  Yes, I supported my husband who enjoyed hunting but now I’ve found myself supporting hunting in general.

What I hope to do over the next couple of weeks is list those networking sites that I’ve joined and share them here.  If you are new to blogging and have setup your deer hunting blog, visit the Outdoor Bloggers Summit.  They are a great supportive group.

Products for Sale - Just in Time for Valentines Day

February 01, 2008 By: Jody Category: Blogging, Deer Hunting, Family & Friends, Fishing, Giveaways 2 Comments →

Valentine’s Day is 2 weeks away and I thought some of you might need reminding.  (Mark)  With that, I wanted to make it easier for those of you searching for the perfect gift.   No need to search any further.  You can find it right here at The Hunter’s Wife.

If you look at my title bar, you will notice I added a “Products for Sale” page that has some great gift ideas.  You can get your wife the perfect mug that says “The Hunter’s Wife”, or for the hunter in your life, how about The GunTriever to keep him/her safe when hunting in a tree stand, or some fishing lures for your fishermens/fisherwomens tackle box, or the lighted pink fishing rod for your wife, girlfriend, daugher, or even your Mother.

If you’re like me, how much easier can it get then to sit at your computer and place an order.  It would take about 5 minutes compared to 25 minutes to get to the store, 45 minutes searching for a gift, 20 minutes to stand in line, 25 minutes to get back home.  You just saved yourself about 2 hours time not to mention the gas for your car.

Head over to my “Products for Sale” and fine the perfect something for the perfect someone.
