Johnny Depp & Hillary Clinton in Indiana
Last week, Johnny Depp was in town for his new movie “Public Enemies”. Also, Hillary Clinton was in town on Friday.
I didn’t get a chance to go watch the filming but a few of my friends did. There were hundreds of people out watching the 3 day filming. I heard the other night Johnny Depp spent an hour signing autographs and shaking fans hands. The cast is scheduled to be in the area over the next few months in Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin.
Hillary Clinton arrived in town Friday. My husband left the house at 4:00 a.m. Thursday morning and didn’t get home until after midnight working with security for the campaign. He barely got any sleep and was out the door again at 4:00 a.m. on Friday. It isn’t very often that a Presidential Candidate has been to our hometown. In fact, it was over 40 years ago.
Unfortunately, I was not able to attend. I’ve never been to a Presidential rally and really wish I would have been able to go.
Have any of you been to a Presidential rally?

I have never been to a presidential rally since I hate huge crowds and can watch them on the news. However I did interview Sen. Phil Gramm of Texas in 1995 when he was running for President. He had made it far enough along in the race to receive Secret Service protection, so it was quite an experience seeing and dealing with that.
Congratulations to Mark for getting chance to be a part of such an important event!

I was at a rally for Bill Clinton at Michigan State when I was there. It was pretty interesting.

I was at a Bush speech in the 90’s at Penn State
We had both Hillary and Obama here this week. But I passed on both.

I would have passed on that particular rally as well. Too be honest though I’ve never had a chance to attend one.

We attended a rally for President Bush when my son was very young. He had a blast waving his “outdoorsmen for Bush” sign. It is a very interesting experience to be able to go and see these people in person!

Whether I support Hillary Clinton or not, I would’ve liked to attend. I think it would be something to hear what she had to say about our community.
Kris, that is too cute!

I went to college in Iowa during the 1988 election, so during the run-up to the Iowa Caucuses, all the candidates visited campus. For my intro to journalism class, I covered rallies for George Bush (Senior) and Bob Dole. It was totally random that I ended up at two Republican rallies.
My (now) husband opened a door for Michael Dukakis at the student union. He was so proud of himself for recognizing the man and relayed his exact conversation as this: Husband opens the door and says “Here you go Governor.” Governor walks through ans says “Thank you, son.” Very mundane now, but very exciting at the time.

I’ve never been to a rally, but I got real close to Al Gore at the Race for the Cure once. I was actually amazed at how little security he seemed to have. Of course, there were probably Secret Service people that I was unaware of among the other runners.
