Memories Beyond The Hunt
“Building memories that last way beyond the hunt”, is a quote from Sue Sorenson, the wife and mother of the team at Base Camp Legends, who inspired my post for today.
My hunter had taken over my computer room last week and was watching some of Tom’s amazing hunting videos. One video in particular was nothing I’d ever seen before. Not that that is very surprising coming from someone who doesn’t hunt let alone goes into the woods. But I vowed right there, if I ever did decide to venture out into the wilderness, I would have to bring Sue along.
This particular video is a three part series from a 2007 winter Idaho hunt. The scenery was breathtaking in the Winter Mountains of Idaho. I watched in amazement as they put their unbelievable camp together. Even adding their Base Camp Legends sign to the outside of their tent as if they were stating the Sorenson’s are home.
The Sorenson’s and Grandpa had everything they needed to survive those 9 to 10 days in the outdoors of winter. Most hunters will focus on the actual footage of the Sorenson’s hunts. Those of us who don’t hunt will most likely focus on things like the wood shelving unit, the homemade ring toss game and the meal that Sue had prepared. When I saw Sue Sorenson set a turkey on the ground to cook, I looked at my hunter and said “FOR THE LOVE OF DEER! How’d you like to have a wife like that?” He just smiled as I said “Well I would.” I’d never seen anything like it.
As the Sorenson’s stated, its not always just about the hunt its the memory of the hunt that will last a lifetime. And Tom did a wonderful job in capturing just that.
If you haven’t watched Base Camp Legends three part series, you can do so here:

Thanks, Jody - that’s the whole point of what we’re trying to capture with our videos - sometimes we get so wrapped up in “the hunt” that we forget that that’s not anywhere near what it’s all about, and we try to show the “other stuff” that is why we love hunting!
That was a special trip for us - and one we’d like to make an annual ordeal. We plan on heading back there again this winter. I’m so glad that someone really took the time to watch it and appreciate it for exactly what we were trying to portray! It gives me the ol’ warm & fuzzy feelin’!
