It’s A Wonderful Life-Being Married To A Hunter

July 31, 2008 By: Jody Category: Deer Hunting

Seeing that I’ve been posting some great gift ideas for this Christmas I was reminded of something I wrote last December and thought I would re-post…

All I Want For Christmas… One of my gifts…

In October, Cabelas opened its new store about 2 miles from our house. Can you guess where the majority of my gifts came from? Yep. One of those gifts was a soft air gun that shoots colored 6 mm BB’s. So this evening Mark setup a target for me downstairs to have target practice. I was actually excited about it. Mark, of course, had to test it out. After his 500th round, I got a turn.

After my 1st round, he had to sight it in. Then changed the sight, then sight it in again. Then move the target, then adjust the target. Then he had to test it out again. After his 600th round, I got a turn.

After my 2nd round, he suggested we clean up the mess. He was done with target practice.

More gifts…

At Mark’s Mom’s house it was time to open gifts. I sat down next to my Mother-In-Law as she would open a present then I opened a present. Now remember, all of Mark’s brother’s hunt and he has no sisters. She opens a gift from son #4, Kenny. Its a sweater from Cabelas. My turn. To Jody from Mark. Oh look, a zip up sweater from Cabelas. Mother-In-Law’s turn. Another sweater from son #4 from Cabelas. My turn. Oh look, a long sleeve shirt from Cabelas from Mark. She looked at me smiling with a proud look on her face probably thinking how wonderful her sons are. I looked at her with a smile, gritting my teeth, thinking I should have bought Mark a sleeping bag from Cabelas so he could use it when he spends the night here tonight.

Oh what memories … being married to a hunter.

Christmas In July - Pink Lighted Fishing Rod

July 30, 2008 By: Jody Category: Fishing

I’ve talked about the Pink Lighted Fishing Rod and Reel combo many times on this site and I’m still getting e-mails from some of you asking where you can purchase one. For those who are unfamiliar with the pink lighted fishing rod and reel combo - the reel lights up when you reel in your line.

Click on the link below and you can order right from there.

Mik Lurch Fishing Tackle Outlet

It’s a great gift and I love mine.  I don’t even care if I never fish with it again.  I just like to turn all the lights out and spin the reel.

Have a great day all. It is hot, muggy and sticky around here and my crabby hunter has a bad cold.

This week I’m running a Christmas in July Series with some great gift ideas. It’s never to early to start your shopping and what better way to get your shopping done. Waiting until the last minute is not good for your budget nor is it a way to find that special gift for that special someone.

Today’s Gift Idea:

Friday’s Goofy Googler - A Hunting Husband To Be

July 25, 2008 By: Jody Category: Deer Hunting

For those who are new around here, this post contains the google search results of how a person searched specific keywords in Google and found my site.

This is what they searched:

“What are ten things you need to look at before you marry her”

If you’re a hunter this is serious business.  You can’t take this lightly and you seriously need to ask yourself ….

  1. Will she wake at 3:00 a.m. to prepare my lunch while I sit in a tree stand for 10 hours?
  2. Will she wake at 3:00 a.m. to tell me bye and to be safe before I go off hunting?
  3. Will she let me put my deer hunting mounts on all four walls of the living room?
  4. Will she wash my deer hunting clothes?
  5. Will she watch hunting shows with me?
  6. Will she eat venison?
  7. Will she cook venison?
  8. Will she go hunting with me?
  9. Will she listen to my deer hunting stories time and time again?
  10. Will she let me wear camouflage or deer shirts when we go for steak dinners?

Give me a minute here…

Ok, I’m done laughing…

You have to remember, you are going to be living in that dream cabin on that 500 acre hunting property in the middle of nowhere blowing on that grunt thingymajigger and for the love of deer you sure don’t want that high maintenace chick they call Park Ave.

I’d share more advice with you but I need to go paint my finger nails.

Festival of The Lakes Fishing Derby 2008

July 24, 2008 By: Jody Category: Fishing

This past weekend was the 5th annual Fishing Derby sponsored by the City of Hammond, Mik Lurch Fishing Tackle Outlet and the Hammond Optimist Club.

Over 300 people attended which was a bit lower then past years because of the rain date change. What is nice about this event is the first 125 kids 15 years of age and younger receive a free rod and reel combination, a starter tackle kit which includes; hooks, bobbers, stringer, split shot and hook remover (I need one of those).  Wax worms and night crawlers were given to all who registered.

Trophies were given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in walleye, panfish and bass categories in youth and adult divisions. Trophy winners also received an additional spinning rod and reel combo and choice of tackle box.

The youngest and oldest, that attended, received a prize and the Shed Aquarium in Chicago gave 6 VIP passes to the aquarium for a group of 4.

Grand prize winner received a coleman cooler, coleman lunch box, coleman water jug, insulated minnow bucket with a bubbler, fishing net, rod and reel combo, 12 ft telescopic cane pole, 2 tackle boxes, tackle box starting kit and a Fenwick rod.

The City of Hammond, Mik Lurch Fishing Tackle Outlet, and the Hammond Optimist Club are always involved in many of the youth programs within our community. The Fishing Derby is just one of many events they sponsor.

p.s.  Mark only got his finger hooked once this year.

For The Love of Deer - I Mooned The Bike Trail Folks

July 23, 2008 By: Jody Category: Family & Friends

I was going to talk about the fishing derby today but I need my hunter to sit with me and go over a few details. The fishing derby was cancelled on Saturday because of rain and was then scheduled for Sunday. I wasn’t able to attend but my hunter got all of the pictures for me and I just need to write the story.

———————————————————————————————————————————-

For the Love Of Deer…

Last week was our local festival and my hunter worked from about 5:00 a.m. until Midnight for 5 days leaving me home alone to tend to household chores. I know what your thinking and no I didn’t cut the grass. My friends from Meier’s Landscaping took care of that. Thanks guys! I didn’t weed whack, I didn’t sweep the driveway, I didn’t sit proudly on my porch and admire my grass with a smile thinking my grass is the greenest in the neighborhood. There are some things this girl just doesn’t do. However, I was in charge of watering the grass, flowers and garden.

We have an irrigation system in our front yard and downstairs is a timer unit. I’m really not sure why that was installed seeing that my hunter has the need to manually turn on each unit located outside. I think it has to do with his manly side of having the control to turn it on when he wants. I’ve never touched the unit until the other day. As he was walking out the door for work he explained how to turn each one on and left.

I was half asleep and needed some coffee before I headed outside. After about 4 cups I remembered I was in charge of that darn irrigation system. I quickly sneeked out the back door in my pajamas to the right side of the house. I bent over and turned the first unit on and nothing. I tried the next unit. Nothing. I stood up straight thinking to myself - for the love of deer this is why I don’t do this outdoorsy stuff. It isn’t in my makeup. Makeup belongs on my face and this is his job not mine. I don’t care if girls can do what guys can this girl doesn’t want to. I bent over and squatted down a bit in frustration and - RIP. Yep, I ripped a big hole in the back of my pajama pants. As I quickly stood up straight and grabbed the back of my pajamas I turned around and wouldn’t you know there are the morning joggers and the bikers getting a free…

I’m now in hiding and I don’t care if his grass dies or not.

Lonestar Was Amazing

July 18, 2008 By: Jody Category: Family & Friends

What a great festival at the Hammond Indiana Festival of the Lakes.

Lonestar Was Amazing. One of the best shows I’ve seen at the festival.

This song was dedicated to the men and women in uniform…

Here are the firefighters who were in charge of the beer garden…

And one tired guy…

And this is one tired girl who has a headache and is off to a late start this morning…

Me…
