To Fish or Not To Fish

I decided to participate in Works for me Wednesday from Rocks In My Dryer. This week’s edition is to have my readers help me out with a dilemma.
Here is my dilemma, or I should say my husband’s dilemma:
Deer hunting season starts October 1st but we have a chance to go fishing that week, which is also my birthday week.
Should we take our fishing trip or should I be more understanding to the needs of a hunter? A hunter that has been waiting for hunting season to start since the last day it ended. A hunter who has been glued to the television with hunting shows for the past 2 months. A hunter that has been looking at his trail cam pictures everyday for the past week. A hunter who thinks I enjoy looking at his trail cam pictures everyday for the past week.
What to do … what to do? It is my birthday week, I do love to fish, we should still have beautiful weather at that time, I have the need to drive the boat.
Should we take this fishing trip or let my hunter stay home to hunt?

Fish, you certainly must fish!

Hmm…I vote let the hunter stay home and hunt. But that is just me I guess. And of course I am biased because I live for opening day so much.
That is a hard one though-with it being your birthday and all. Hmmmm….
Let us know what you two decide.

That’s a tough one. If it were me, though, I’d let him go hunting. You can fish most of the year, but deer season is for a limited time.
Then, make him go ice fishing with you in February for Valentine’s Day and tell him he owes it to you. :o)
Love your blog. I’m a hunter’s wife and a fisher-woman myself.

I say let him go hunting and me and you go fishing….Even tho you are a girly girl and I am not I still would need you to bait my hook and take my big ol’ fish off the hook….

Can’t you do both? He can hunt opening day and then go fishing with you. Seems like that would work.

If your hunter can go and enjoy himself while fishing, then that is what I would do. He can always hunt later.
However if he is not going to be any fun during the trip because of the pouting and whining about not hunting, then you may as well not go if you aren’t going to have fun with him there.
Just my thought…

Hmmm - I like to fish, BUT, hunting is just…well, it’s hard to put in words. It’s the reason I can get through a rough day and still have an inkling of my sanity left. Is there no chance of fishing the week before that? You can pretend it’s your birthday week!
Well - this is why guys are bad at the birthday/anniversary/special dates thing. If a special date falls during hunting season…whew - that’s a big test!

FISH! Oops, that kind of just slipped out
Do you have a friend you could go fishing with, while your husband went hunting? I hope whatever you choose that you have a wonderful birthday!!

I am so sorry your birthday falls on the first week of opening day, that is very sad for you! My birthday is 9/29 so girl I feel your pain because I too am married to a hunter, a hunter who is a wonderful faithful loving man who for 3 months out of the year is devoted to the deer, turkey or bear pick your weekend.
I must say for your husband let him hunt, I know it’s tough but being a good wife means we make sacrifices, and do something really fun the weekend before for your birthday.
That might not be the answer you wanted but I bet if you tell him to go hunting, you will get an even better gift the week before!

Well, this would normally be an easy, no brainer for me….duh..FISH
but I do understand opening day of deer season….back when my husband used to hunt that first day was the most important…everyone got up early met for a big breakfast (usually at our house), then back for lunch and horseshoes, back our for a early evening hunt then bar-b-que.
But…..since it is your birthday…I say you pick…..good weather won’t last long….so get the boat out…go fish
Rock, paper, sissors could solve it also…that’s how my daughter and her husband decide who gets to change a stinky diaper!

Well, Jody, I am very partial to fishing so I say go fishing. On the other hand, I don’t know if an outing designed to “Cast & Blast” on the same trip is possible or not. Hope something works out for you both. Let us know!
